Castello Di Gabbiano Wedding Photography

Italy, Florence Summer Wedding

I love to travel for weddings weather it be just outside of Manchester, all around the UK or even across to different parts of Europe. Tuscany is beautiful and one of my favourite places to shoot weddings. I had travelled for a holiday to Siena just outside of Florence just a month or so before Rhiannon and Mike asked to meet up with me to discuss their wedding photography. When I found out they were planning a late summer Tuscan wedding and they wanted me to fly over to shoot it I was ridiculously excited and when they showed me the website of the stunning Castello Di Gabbiano I was even more so! I have known Rhiannon’s family for a good few years as I spent 12 years of my career teaching at the same school as her dad John who is a dear friend of mine. Rhiannon also studied at the same school and some of the wedding guests were past students of mine so I was looking forward to catching up with everybody.

I flew out to Bologna and hired a car a couple of days before the wedding and found a beautiful villa in the countryside to stay in for a few days not far from the stunning Castello Di Gabbiano. I met up with Rhiannon and Mike and had a look around the Castle whilst we chatted about the wedding day plans. I took a few pre-wedding photos of them both at the venue just before sunset in the olive groves and around the outside of the Castle. You can see the pre wedding photoshoot here. The evening before the wedding Rhiannon and Mike and their families invited me along for a lovely Tuscan meal with all their guests which was such a nice idea for everybody to get to know each other before the wedding day.

The morning of the wedding was really relaxed. Rhiannon and her Bridesmaids had some full on hair and makeup pampering in the bridal suite. there was a lot of laughter and tears and the girls were all super relaxed. The Ushers, Best men and rest of the boys were busy with their duties organising for the ceremony and reception downstairs decorating the place with lanterns, cute photo garlands and details for the tables. After all their hard work they decided that a beer in the pool was the best idea before getting into their groomsmen suits. The weather was amazing and most of the guests were outside by the pool enjoying a few pre wedding drinks.

Most weddings abroad in the summer are late in the afternoon around 4pm onwards when the sun and temperature has dropped a little… and as I well know the weather in Tuscany can change rapidly, you can often see rain clouds coming over the mountains and before you know it they are on top of you with really heavy rain showers. About half an hour after the ceremony the sky looked like it was going to change so we quickly got group shots and Bride and Groom portraits done just in time as there was an almighty storm at night!

The evening entertainment was epic. It was a mixture of hardcore karaoke , limbo dancing and Mike’s legendary tree dance which had us all in stitches.

Here are some of the highlights of the day.. thanks so much for inviting me over to Florence to photograph you Tuscan castle wedding Rhi and Mike! You two rock!
