Summer wedding at the Out Barn in Clitheroe

Olivia and Sean’s wedding at the Out Barn in Clitheroe
As we move into summer, I’ve been busy working on some fantastic Manchester wedding photography bookings. One fabulous wedding I shot recently was at the Out Barn in Clitheroe, which really is a stunning venue located in the Ribble Valley, in Lancashire. The booking was for the lovely Olivia and Sean, who really put on such a special occasion for their guests.
The Out Barn is family-owned and operated, and it’s a completely exclusive setting, which means wedding parties have all the privacy and flexibility they want for the perfect event. Every space is ready to be customised, and there’s a fantastically experienced team on-site making sure that everything goes to plan.
How a Manchester Wedding Photographer gets prepared
I already knew the Out Barn in Clitheroe as I’ve been lucky to work there on other Manchester wedding photography jobs in the past. However, I know from experience that every event is different, so I made sure I was ready and packed with my backup kit the night before, and I got to the venue very early in the morning so that the bride and groom could relax knowing that I was there.
Sean, the groom, actually camped with his family and friends the night before in a field near the venue! It was a brilliant setup with tent boxes, caravans, and camper vans, and the groom’s prep photography was so much fun! With all the space and the beautiful surroundings, they really had the perfect setup for getting ready without any stress.
Meanwhile, the girls were getting ready at an Airbnb farmhouse about ten minutes away. With nine bridesmaids, it really was as chaotic and joyous as you can imagine! You can see from the photos that everyone had a ton of fun getting ready and sipping the odd drink or two.

Glamour, colour and joy everywhere!
There were so many lovely things to look at in the venue. The bridesmaids were beautiful in their soft green one-shoulder dresses and bright colour-pop posies, and Olivia looked a million dollars in her pure white silk dress with a fitted bodice, spaghetti straps, and full skirt.
The venue was also dressed to perfection, with the most glorious colourful flowers, white linen, and sparkling glassware. It was great to get everyone outdoors, for some group shots, as the views are incredible from the Out Barn. Check out that blend of wildflower fields, manicured lawns, woodland areas, and incredible sweeping views. It really is the most magnificent venue.

The BEST entertainment!
Olivia and Sean really had gone all out to entertain their guests with a thoughtful agenda for their big day. It was such a fun wedding with loads of entertainment, so everything was filled with great vibes and energy.
There was an MC all day, Bongo Bingo during dessert, a harpist during the ceremony, and a Club Ibiza-style violinist and acoustic band at night, as well as a brilliant DJ. There was so much dancing and party vibes all through the wedding, and because the day stayed dry – thankfully – everyone was able to take advantage of all the outdoor space.

What works for documentary wedding photography?
My reportage style wedding photography means that I’m always looking to capture real, natural, and emotion-filled photos that truly capture the spirit of the day. I use all of my experience and skills to make sure the photos tell a real story, with lots of energy, great colour, and ‘real’ moments that evoke all the best moments of the event.
I spend all day running around, and everyone soon forgets that I’m there and just concentrates on having fun with friends and loved ones. Of course, I also take group shots where couples want them, but the main focus of the wedding album is on documentary style wedding photographs, which have a strongly editorial feel and a real story to them.
I also take the happy couple off for some bride and groom portraits after the ceremony. This is always a special moment, as the newlyweds are often a bit shell-shocked and giggly, and they love having that little bit of time together, all to themselves. I managed to get Olivia and Sean off to the beautiful green field area near the stone bridge for some intimate and natural newlywed portraits.
And then the entertainment really kicked in as the evening event came around. Yes, that is one of the groom’s party breakdancing upside down! Everyone really let their hair down as the DJ spun some tunes and the disco strobe lights transformed the space. The happy couple took to the dance floor, too, and delighted everyone.
By the time I was ready to finish up the day’s photography job, I was definitely glad of my trainers and took home thousands of digital photos to sort through and edit. It’s one of my favourite parts of working on Manchester wedding photography jobs, and I spend ages carefully selecting the best images and then editing them to perfection. My clients receive a private, password-protected link to their album, allowing them to download, print, and share as they wish. It’s such a lovely moment sending off that link and knowing how much joy they will have in seeing their images and reliving the big day all over again!
