Morleys Hall Barn Summer Wedding

Clare and Louis’ Summer Wedding at The Barn at Morley’s Hall
Clare and Louis chose The Barn at Morley’s Hall for their colourful summer wedding, and it was such a brilliant day to photograph. Beautiful flowers, plenty of sunshine, a very enthusiastic confetti line and a dance floor that filled up almost immediately, basically, everything you could ask for from a wedding.
I’ve photographed weddings at Morley’s Hall Barn many times over the years. It’s close to where I’m based, so it feels like one of my local venues, and I always enjoy coming back. Knowing the venue well also means I know where the best light falls, which parts of the grounds work well for photographs and where I can quietly position myself during the ceremony without getting in anybody’s way.
Colourful wedding preparations
The day began with Clare getting ready at home, surrounded by her bridesmaids. The bright, colourful rooms made a brilliant backdrop for the morning photographs and suited the whole feel of the wedding perfectly.
There was plenty happening, from hair and make-up to last-minute dress adjustments, bouquets arriving and everyone’s reactions when Clare was finally ready. Clare’s bridesmaids wore bold red dresses, which looked fantastic alongside the red, blush pink and soft peach flowers used throughout the day.
These quieter parts of the morning are always some of my favourites to photograph. Rather than setting everything up or asking people to repeat moments, I simply capture what is naturally happening, the nerves, the laughter and all the little interactions that Clare and Louis might otherwise have missed.

A ceremony inside The Barn at Morley’s Hall
The wedding ceremony took place inside the main barn at Morley’s Hall. The venue’s exposed brickwork, wooden beams and warm fairy lights created a really cosy atmosphere, while the floral arrangements brought loads of colour into the room.
Clare walked down an aisle lined with flowers before joining Louis at the front of the barn. Louis wore a classic black tuxedo, which looked perfect against the warm brick interior, and it was lovely seeing his reaction as Clare arrived.
The ceremony was relaxed, emotional and full of smiling faces. Photographing ceremonies in a natural, documentary style means I can capture the important moments without interrupting them. I’m not walking around at the front or asking anyone to look towards the camera — I’m quietly documenting the reactions, glances and expressions as they happen.

An enormous Morley’s Hall confetti moment
After the ceremony, everyone headed outside into the courtyard for confetti.
And there was a lot of it.
Clare and Louis walked out beneath the large brick archway while their guests covered them in red, pink and white confetti. It was one of those confetti photographs where you can barely see the couple beneath it all — always the sign of a properly committed group of wedding guests.
The brick exterior of The Barn at Morley’s Hall makes a brilliant backdrop for this part of the day. The large arch frames everyone perfectly and gives the photographs a real sense of the venue.

Drinks, laughter and relaxed wedding photography
The rest of the afternoon was spent outside enjoying drinks in the courtyard. This is when I can concentrate on photographing all the unscripted moments between guests: people catching up, laughing together, opening bottles and generally getting into the spirit of the day.
Clare and Louis wanted their wedding photography to feel relaxed rather than spending hours being taken away from their guests. We completed the family group photographs efficiently and then took a short walk around the grounds for a few photographs of the two of them together.
Because I’ve photographed so many weddings at Morley’s Hall, I already know the quieter areas that work well. The water and surrounding greenery gave Clare and Louis a completely different backdrop from the exposed brick of the barn, while still keeping everything close enough that they weren’t missing their own drinks reception.
The resulting portraits feel relaxed and natural because Clare and Louis were able to chat, laugh and enjoy a few minutes together without being forced into lots of awkward poses.

Wedding speeches inside the barn
Everyone then headed back inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches.
The tables were decorated with red, pink and cream flowers, gold details and candlelight, all set against the fairy lights and exposed brick walls of the barn. The room looked warm, colourful and welcoming without feeling overly formal.
The speeches included plenty of laughter, a few emotional moments and some excellent audience participation involving large printed signs. This is exactly why I love documentary wedding photography. While the person giving the speech is important, some of the best photographs are often the reactions happening around the room.

A packed Morley’s Hall Barn dance floor
After the meal, the barn was transformed for the evening celebrations.
Clare and Louis opened the dance floor before everyone else quickly joined them. The fairy lights, warm brick walls and evening lighting make Morley’s Hall Barn wedding photography look completely different after dark.
The dance floor stayed busy, with plenty of singing, questionable dance moves and guests fully committing to the evening. I always stay beyond the first dance because this is often when some of the funniest and most energetic photographs of the whole wedding happen.

Weddings at The Barn at Morley’s Hall
The Barn at Morley’s Hall is a converted barn wedding venue in Astley, near Tyldesley and Greater Manchester. It combines exposed brickwork, high ceilings and original character with plenty of space for ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and evening celebrations.
There is also an outdoor courtyard, surrounding greenery and several different areas around the venue for photographs. Everything takes place in one location, which helps the day flow naturally and gives couples more time with their guests.
As a Manchester wedding photographer, it is always lovely photographing a venue so close to home. I’ve worked at Morley’s Hall many times, so I’m familiar with the building, the grounds and how the light changes throughout the day.
Most importantly, it is a venue where couples can create a wedding that feels completely personal to them, whether that means lots of colourful flowers, informal food, live entertainment or a packed dance floor.
