6 of The Best Venues for North West Wedding Photography

If you’re thinking of booking your wedding in the North West, then you’re in luck because we’ve got some fabulous venues in this part of the UK.

Working as a Manchester wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to shoot beautiful events across Cheshire, Lancashire, and sometimes even further afield! But even in this relatively small geography, we have so much diversity. From relaxed stone barns surrounded by rolling green hills to elegant manor houses and exciting urban conversions, there’s something for everyone… and superb backdrops for my style of reportage wedding photography!

My job means I’m always looking at venues from the perspective of their layouts, lighting, and backdrops, so I can capture every beautiful moment from the happy couple’s big day. And these are some of my absolute favourites! So if you’re in the research phase and wondering where to visit to draw up your wedding venue shortlist, these are all worth checking out!

Merrydale Manor

Merrydale Manor is an iconic Cheshire wedding venue packed with classic charm and that elegant aesthetic that couples love. Even better, it’s spacious so there’s plenty of room for natural and relaxed photography.

Merrydale Manor is also set in acres of countryside, so it’s great for outdoor shots, and for moving guests into the sunshine if the great British weather plays ball. It’s one of the Cheshire wedding venues with a lovely lake too, so I always try to get couples by the water for some intimate shots. With the right light, nothing beats a wedding photography shot by water!

It’s been laid out specifically with the needs of weddings in mind, so couples have a fantastically seamless and smooth day, especially with the attentions of the in-house events team.

Colshaw Hall

Colshaw Hall is actually owned by the same family as Merrydale Manor, so you’ll get a sense of the same professionalism and careful attention to detail at both venues. Colshaw Hall is a classic Georgian country house with extensive formal gardens and sweeping driveways that give the all-important sense of period drama the moment you arrive.

Again, from a Manchester wedding photography perspective, it’s extremely versatile and offers so much to work with. The interior rooms are surprisingly spacious and bright for a Georgian period house and the gardens are a must for relaxed reportage style shots.

These venues are brilliant if you’re looking for a luxurious Cheshire wedding with that refined and exclusive feel. Even better, they combine modern and historic elements perfectly for a relaxed event and plenty of backdrops, angles and sweeping vistas for beautiful Cheshire wedding photography!

Owen House Wedding Barn

I love Owen House Wedding Barn and have shot here a few times now. It’s very peresonal and laid back and coipletely full of charm, with features like exposed wooden beams, quirky detailing and cute fairy lights everywhere. The atmosphere is so welcoming and warm and everyone relaxes when they walk through the door.

That’s ideal for me as everyone starts smiling and laughing the minute they arrive at a relaxed cheshire barn wedding ,and it makes my Manchster reportage style wedding photography so much easier. Even better, the beautiful outdoor spaces are just primed for those golden hour snaps, and relaxed, informal group shots that let everyone move and breathe without feeling staged and awkward!

Check out the versatility of this venue – Helen and Jack’s wedding album shows just how varied Owen House Wedding Barn is: Helen and Jack’s Owen House Barn Wedding

Stock Farm Barn

This is my other big favourite for a Cheshire barn wedding, again with the relaxed vibe but with a very clean and minimal aesthetic which is just perfect for customising.. The banr is a photographer’s  dream too as it’s so airy and filled with light, and the surrounding countryside is very peaceful and open. I love the gentle, relaxed vibe here, and the photos always turn out perfectly with a real sense of personalised authenticity for each couple.

Oak Tree of Peover

The Oak Tree of Peover is another favourite with its welcoming and intimate feel, and gardens that are a complete highlight in their own right. Weddings here invariably end up outdoors with stylish drinks receptions and romantic couples shots away from the hustle and bustle of the event itself.

The barn is authentic and cosy, with plenty of  rustic charm, a modern finish and huge windows that flood every shot for natural light and radiance. You can see just how beautiful the ceremony looks with the trees just outside, here in Jess and Charlie’s Cheshire wedding photography album: Jess and Charlie’s Oak Tree Of Peover Wedding

Styal Lodge

Like the Oak Tree of Peover, Styal Lodge is another regular destination for my work as a Cheshire wedding photographer and it’s also family-run. I love the huge windows and wooden beams in a pale pine finish.

Styal Lodge is the ultimate high-end blank canvas, and it’s one of those locations where every wedding looks so different. The  events team are also incredibly helpful and professional and take care of all the little details.
