Most of my clients know me as a Manchester wedding photographer, as I’m booked to carry out documentary style wedding photography in Cheshire and Lancashire throughout the year!

But when I’m not snapping weddings, I’m turning my camera towards families! Like most professional photographers, I absolutely love my line of work and capturing special moments between people ticks every box for me!

Autumn is such a beautiful time of year, and it works particularly well for outdoor family photo shoots in Manchester because we have fantastic spaces with loads of beautiful backdrops, whether you love trees, lakes, urban landscapes or… your back garden!

On a bright clear day, with those crispy leaves for the kids to crunch, and beautiful orange shades everywhere, the light really works in our favour for outdoor photography. It’s often a little lower and a little more golden, and this creates such warmth for the photos.

Grey days don’t matter for Manchester outdoor family photo shoots!

Don’t worry if you book a Manchester outdoor family photo shoot on a grey day though! We don’t always get the weather up here, but I have the skills and equipment to make every photo look superb! We just need some dry weather so that everyone can move freely and feel comfortable and happy outside as a family. 

On a grey day, I can still capture colour with autumn leaf colour, bright clothes, and beautiful patches of blue sky when they appear! We can also use props such as balloons and other cute items for the kids – teddy bears are a great inclusion!

Naturally, I also spend time perfecting each shot afterwards in post-production, adjusting the colour, contrast and tone using professional editing equipment, so that your final family photo shoot album looks as vibrant and beautiful in print as it did in real life.

If you’re at all familiar with my work, you’ll know that I’m a reportage style photographer in Manchester. This means that I capture beautiful, natural moments as they happen, rather than getting my subjects to stand in forced poses.

Reportage photography works perfectly for outdoor family photography shoots. This is because families can really relax and have fun together in the outdoors and they very soon forget that I’m even there.

The results are brilliant – natural, emotion-filled, joyous and fluid photographs filled with energy, connection and real family stories. I can capture personalities, humour, movement and perfectly natural shots that look wonderful in your photo albums and on your walls!

I tend to just move around with my clients and wait to see what the kids (or dogs!) do… capturing the interactions and each special moment and expression. We take our time, we have fun, and we just see where the shoot takes us. 

The more relaxed and unpressured it is, the better the results, so I always allow for plenty of time and turn up ready and prepared, so that all my clients have to do is enjoy themselves while I work around them!
