Katy and James’ Intimate Tuscan Wedding

Katy and James chose the stunning Tuscan countryside to get married which is literally my most favourite place on Earth! I’ve driven around Tuscany a few times and it really is stunning. As I always do with destination weddings I headed out a couple of days before so I could grab a days rest and have a good look around the wedding venues. I met up with Katy and James on the day I arrived and we did a little pre-wedding photoshoot and had a look around both the venues. The Ceremony itself was to take place at the Abbey of San Galgano which is the fascinating remains from one of Tuscany’s most famous monasteries of all times. The accommodation I had booked for the 3 days I was in San Galgano was opposite the monastery and we had amazing views of it whilst sitting in the gardens of our apartment.

The intimate wedding reception and 8 course dinner in the afternoon and into the evening was booked at Borgo Santo Pietro which is a 5 star boutique hotel and estate with Michelin star restaurants. Katy would be getting ready in the morning there with her mum and bridesmaid in the Borgo Spa whilst James and his boys were down the road at a lovely traditional Italian farmhouse.

As always in Tuscany the weather can change very quickly from glorious sunshine to flash torrential rain and storms. The forecast was up and down and so we kept a close eye on the sky most of the morning. Luckily as we arrived at The Abbey the sky looked overcast but no sign of rain clouds. The intimate ceremony had tourists queuing outside trying to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds. We managed to get some portraits inside the Abbey before it was reopened to the public and we headed off to the Borgo Estate for welcome drinks and canapés. The sky had cleared and we were lucky to get some afternoon sun just in time for golden hour portraits around the estate.

The Borgo Estate is a wedding photographers dream. The gardens are exquisitely groomed with thirteen acres of uplifting aromas and blissful vistas is a potent tonic for wellbeing. The Borgo Santo Pietro Estate really is a myriad of hidden gems. I had a walk around and captured some relaxed photographs of the newlyweds before heading to the outdoor dining area that had been dressed with candles and foliage ready for the 8 course dinner and speeches.

Here are some highlights of Katy and James’ intimate Tuscan wedding.
